Ribbon Zinc Anode

Zinc ribbon anodes are a thin, wire-like strip of zinc metal extruded around a centralized galvanized steel wire core.

Category:

Description

Zinc ribbon anodes are slim, wire-like strips composed of zinc metal wrapped around a central galvanized steel wire core. This core is securely bonded to the zinc shell to ensure a continuous electrical pathway.

The sacrificial nature of zinc in zinc ribbon anodes offers a straightforward, cost-efficient, and low-maintenance method for preventing corrosion in buried or submerged metals like iron, steel, aluminum, or copper.

These anodes are particularly well-suited for remote locations where installing impressed current cathodic protection systems or continuous monitoring is impractical. They find frequent use in providing passive cathodic protection for metal structures located in tight spaces or areas with high electrical resistance. This includes scenarios such as buried pipelines within protective sleeves, closely interconnected pipe networks, pipelines running through rocky or mountainous landscapes, wells with limited spacing between inner and outer casings, narrow gaps requiring the anode to be wound around the protected structure, and interstitial spaces between old and new tank bottoms to prevent corrosion.

Quality Substrate Material
Our zinc ribbon anode is crafted from top-quality special high grade (SHG) zinc ingots boasting a purity level of 99.995%. We manufacture it in strict compliance with ASTM-B418 standards for both type I and type II alloys. The exceptionally high purity of our anode material enhances its resistance against the formation of passive films. Type I variants are typically deployed in marine or brackish water environments, whereas Type II variants find their applications in underground and freshwater settings.

Low Temperature Tolerance
The zinc ribbon anode is engineered to deliver superior performance even in harsh cold conditions, such as thawed areas within permafrost, where temperatures can drop as low as -22ºF/ -30ºC.

Broad Application Scope

Zinc ribbon anodes find application in various scenarios, including:

1. Protecting underground long-distance coated pipelines with minimal current needs, typically in soils with resistivity of 2000 ohm-cm or less using specially prepared gypsum-clay backfill.
2. Safeguarding the secondary exterior bottom of above-ground storage tanks.
3. Shielding the interior bottom areas of oil storage tanks where saltwater accumulates.
4. Mitigating alternating current (A.C.) effects on pipelines.
5. Employing A.C. mitigation with grounding mats.
6. Grounding the steel tower footings of overhead power systems.

Strict Quality Control
Keeper employs a state-of-the-art automatic extruder to manufacture zinc ribbon, enabling an annual production capacity of 2,000,000 meters. Adhering to ISO 9001:2015 standards, we meticulously manufacture, inspect, and test our zinc ribbon anodes following rigorous quality control protocols to guarantee optimal performance.

Customized Configurations
Our zinc ribbon anode is available in four standard sizes, featuring exceptional tensile strength and hardness. Upon request, it can be conveniently customized to any desired length.
